Emma has been meaning to read more ever since she was twelve years old. I have seen a great many lists of her drawing-up, at various times, of books that she meant to read regularly through -- and very good lists they were, very well chosen, and very neatly arranged -- sometimes alphabetically, and sometimes by some other rule.
--from our first book, Jane Austen's "Emma," brought to our attention by WendysList member Andrea L.

In the Forum, we were discussing what we had been reading over the summer, which led to Forum regular Wendy revealing that she carries a list of classic books in her handbag in case she runs into garage sales or other likely repositories of cheapo books. We all clamored to see it, and some folks expressed a desire to read their way through it with Wendy. Wendy has agreed to moderate a book club mailing list to this end. And so, we present to you the first TNH book club (more book clubs have formed since).
